Here is another video showing my painting process. It does not differ much from what I do in Painter, but it does have a few new tricks in it. The music is OAM's Blues by Aaron Goldberg, and Despertar by Aisha Duo. Length is 1 hr- 1hr 30 minutes sped up to around ten.

Orannis

Another character sketch from my personal project. This guy is the requisite companion to the protagonist throughout her adventures, and he acts as a guiding force in her development from introvert to heroine as the story progresses.

Personality-wise, Orannis is intelligent, thoughtful, and deeply protective of those he cares about. He also has a very strong sense of right and wrong, making him chivalric almost to a fault.

As to what he is, Orannis is a celestial being. He is a personification of creative energy, able to manipulate the surroundings around him to an extent. For example, he can form solid objects out of air, make illusions by warping light, and slow down time to a degree. I still haven't figured out all the strengths and weaknesses of his ability or personality, but I think he'll be interesting to write as a character! I may eventually make an official character sheet for him and others once I get their defining traits set in stone.

(P.S. If you can figure out which book inspired his name, kudos to you! Here's a hint: It's from a series written by Garth Nix.)

First of the illustration w/story quotes. I should probably do more of these, as they really get my creative juices flowing as to how I can best portray the quoted events. This particular one takes place in a dream sequence early on in the story, and acts as a harbinger of things to come...

Death and The Maiden

Here's another painting inspired by literary themes. I wanted to break a little from the traitional style of this type of painting, and portray Death as a kinder figure than history normally shows him/her/it. Also, this painting reflects my mood about those dreary winter days...

Now I'm going to have to draw something happy and colorful to offset this one. :P

Here's another character study. I don't have a real name for this fellow, but he looks like a military type person. On closer study, he ended up looking more like the KFC guy than I intended.

This was an exercise in Realbristle brushes in Painter more than anything, but I like how the colors turned out on this one. Not my most finished work, but I like the mood behind it.

Lost in Blue

For a while I wanted to make a piece that had a sort of quiet elegance, a kind of beauty that is understated, not overtly sensual. I am happy overall with how it came out, and it was a good lesson in colors harmonizing with each other. The dropped strap is a reference to John Singer Sargent's Madame X painting, which inspired this piece.

This girl is one of the heroes of an ongoing personal project of mine, one that's been milling around in my head for the past few years as bits and pieces of storylines and artworks, just waiting to pop out of my head. I may post more relating to the project in the future, so keep a lookout for her. Here's a hint: she always wears a red coat. I may add snippets of writing to the posts relating to her or other characters detailing more of their background, or telling what's going on in the scene. Respond if you like; this project is still semi-unformed, so any criticisms or suggestions would be great! I hope to turn this into a novel or graphic novel at some point in the far off future...

Here is an assignment that I had to do for landscape architecture. We had to sketch a public area and then monitor the traffic patterns and social uses of the area for 30 minutes. This whole thing took me a while, but I'm fairly happy with how it came out. Simple, yet readable.

The Lady of Shalott

This little number was inspired by the poem of the same name by Tennyson, as well as the painting of the same subject by John William Waterhouse. This image shows the Lady singing her last song before death as she drifts downriver to Camelot. I had a fun time with this image, especially with the water and suggesting the blanket sinking into the river. Sorry about the watermark, but what with the Orphaned Works Act going thru Congress, I need to protect my art from art thieves.
